Cries for help and begs for attention are ignored and scoffed at. Pavlov’s law silences the dying spirit
This piece is based on the song by Counterparts of the same name.
I’ve always wanted to do something with the lyric “cut my tongue out of my mouth, it’s about as useless as my lungs”. This song and that line have been a go-to comfort song any time I’m feeling alone and hurting, and I’ve had this image in my head for years.
It’s easy to feel completely alone in what you’re suffering through, and like your cries for help are falling on deaf ears. Nobody REALLY wants to help. Nobody is willing to show up in the way you need them to. Empty platitudes like “I’m sorry” or “it gets better” are more of a slap in the face than helpful love.
Eventually you feel like there’s no point to crying out for help because no one listens or wants to make the effort anyways.
This is where therapy is absolutely crucial. A qualified professional that’s GOOD at what they do is exactly what we need in these lowest moments. Their job is to help us through our situations. There’s a lot of lazy therapists, but I implore you to please keep searching for one until you get one that really truly helps. It’s a life changer, and knowing you’ve got qualified help when you need it is an intense peace of mind.
My body of work “IN THE THROES OF SORROW” chronicles instances and feelings I battled while in one of the deepest depressions of my life in 2022. Each piece presents a very real feeling I struggled with during this time and serves as an outlet for something many of us go through in our lives. It’s a story of pain and struggle, and I’m putting it forth as a means to say you are not alone in your darkest hours. We often feel like nobody could possibly understand what we’re feeling. This collection of paintings is to say I do, and you are valid. You are heard.
